Welcome to another evening with the Grand Rapids Choir of Men & Boys.
It is our great privilege to be with you as we sing God’s praise through music both old and new. We hope the music we bring gives you both comfort and joy. Did you know that when tonight’s service is over, the choir will process out and form ranks in a quiet room where the boys will say the Royal School of Church Music Chorister’s prayer: “The words that I say and sing with my lips may I believe in my heart, and believing them in my heart may I show them forth by the way that I live my life.” What a profound way to conclude when you look back at all of the life changing, life giving words the boys have sung over the course of the evening. Here at GRCMB we love the quote
“Hope is hearing the song of the future… Faith is dancing to it today.”
~ Bishop William C. Frey, Dance of Hope
In these difficult times in which we live, it is both faith and hope to which we must cling. They are legacies we must give to our children. As a parent of three former choristers, I know the impact these words and this music can have on young lives. So often I hear my own boys singing the psalms while doing homework at the kitchen table or shooting baskets in the driveway. I’m not even sure they are aware they are singing. The seeds are planted deep at this age.
If you would like to help us continue this legacy in West Michigan, please consider helping us with a gift. We are in the process of building an endowement in order to assure the choir will continue far into the future, growing boys into men musically and spiritually, as well as leading worship and making music like you are hearing tonight.
“A church, school, or community without a choir
is like a body without a soul.
Singing lies at the heart of worship and education.
Choir training has a valuable part to play
in giving life and soul to all
as we worship and learn.”
~ John Rutter, Composer and Conductor
